Labor activity at UC Davis Oct. 23-25
Dear UC Davis Community,
There is a labor strike scheduled for this week on the Davis campus and at UC Davis Health. The University of California Office of the President has been involved in prolonged contract negotiations with several employee unions, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), has notified the university that it will strike for three days on all 10 UC campuses.
The strike will begin at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, and conclude at 3:59 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26.
The strike will include the following bargaining units:
- Patient Care Technical (EX)
- Service (SX)
- Technical (TX)
- Research Support Professionals (RX)
- Health Care Professionals (HX)
We have contingency plans in place to ensure that critical healthcare, educational and research functions continue unimpeded. UC Davis Health will remain open, but there will be disruptions in Sacramento, just as there will be disruptions on the Davis campus.
On the Sacramento campus, please keep your appointments as scheduled, unless you are asked by your provider to reschedule. Food service and mail delivery will be what is primarily impacted, and solutions are available.
On the Davis campus, you may experience some alterations to traditional schedules. However, classes will continue as scheduled, Student Health Services will remain open, the veterinary hospital will remain open and dining halls will continue operating. Custodial and maintenance services will be available. Mail delivery will be impacted but will-call is available.
The Mondavi Center may need to cancel performances and issue refunds.
Our Mission Continues
I ask that each of you please strive to continue delivering exceptional service to our patients, students, and each other during this time. I would also remind everyone that consistent with our Principles of Community, we support an individual's right to express themselves by striking. However, by choosing to be a part of the UC Davis community, we also have an obligation to patients, students and colleagues.
I certainly appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to manage any inconveniences to your patients, studies and research.
